Overview
A rosette-awarded restaurant, beautifully set within a converted cowshed on a working farm estate near Welwyn, Hertfordshire, is looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join its kitchen team. The restaurant has built a strong reputation for quality, seasonal cooking served in a striking rural setting, and the kitchen holds itself to a consistently high, rosette-level standard.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Sous Chef or Junior Sous Chef with genuine rosette experience who is ready to take the next step up in their career.
The Role
Working closely with the Head Chef, you will play a key role in running the kitchen day to day, leading the team through service, maintaining rosette-level standards of food and presentation, and helping to shape the menu. This is a genuine step-up opportunity for someone with a strong grounding as a Sous Chef or Junior Sous Chef who is ready for greater responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen
Leading and organising the section chefs through busy service periods
Maintaining consistently high, rosette-level standards of food quality and presentation
Deputising for the Head Chef in their absence
Training, mentoring and supporting junior members of the kitchen team
Assisting with menu development and seasonal dishes
Monitoring stock levels, ordering and stock rotation
Maintaining excellent food hygiene and food safety standards at all times
Key Requirements
Previous experience as a Sous Chef or Junior Sous Chef, ideally for some time, looking to step up
Genuine rosette experience is essential
Strong leadership skills with the ability to run a section and support the wider team
A good understanding of food hygiene and safety practices
Ability to remain calm and organised under pressure during service
A genuine passion for quality, seasonal cooking
Flexibility to work shifts as required
