This is one of the leading luxury hotels in Devon and the West Country. Standing in five acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, it overlooks Sidmouth bay and is just a short stroll from the centre of this elegant resort town.
The hotel is renowned for first-class cuisine, with the chefs selecting the freshest ingredients each day — sourced wherever possible from trusted Devon suppliers — to create table d’hôte and à la carte menus that surprise and delight. It’s a setting where kitchen standards are exceptionally high and every member of the team plays a vital part.
The Role
The Kitchen Porter role is one of the most important in the business. You will be responsible for keeping a busy kitchen clean and its equipment organised, working closely with the Head Chef to maintain the high standards the hotel is known for. It’s a hands-on role that keeps the whole brigade running smoothly through service.
Key Responsibilities
- Keeping the kitchen clean, tidy and organised at all times, before, during and after service.
- Washing, cleaning and correctly storing crockery, glassware, utensils and kitchen equipment.
- Ensuring equipment is organised and readily available for the brigade during busy service.
- Working closely with the Head Chef and kitchen team to maintain exceptional standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Assisting with the safe disposal of waste and general kitchen upkeep.
- Supporting the wider kitchen team with basic tasks as required.
Key Requirements
- Experience of working in a hotel with a large brigade, to a very high standard.
- A dedicated, punctual and methodical approach to your work.
- Someone who is used to a bit of hard graft and takes pride in a job well done.
- Strong awareness of kitchen cleanliness, hygiene and health and safety standards.
- A reliable team player who thrives in a busy, fast-paced environment.
