Location: Windermere, Cumbria
Salary: Bar Assistant £12.75 per hour
Bar Supervisor or Restaurant Supervisor £14.22 per hour
Bar Manager £14.90 per hour
Contract: Permanent
Live-In/Accommodation: Not available. Candidates must live locally or commute with their own transport.
Overview
We are recruiting for a busy four-star resort and spa on the shores of Windermere, in the heart of the Lake District. It has two restaurants, two bars, a café and a full spa, with stunning views across the lake to the fells.
Guests come for the setting, good food and a warm welcome. The resort now needs new people behind the bar and on the restaurant floor. There are four roles, so there is a level to suit you whether you are starting out or ready to run the bar.
The Role
These are hands-on roles in a busy hotel bar and restaurant. You will look after hotel guests, spa visitors and diners from morning through to late evening. Shifts run on a rota and include evenings, weekends and bank holidays. The resort sits in a rural spot on the lakeshore, and late finishes make public transport hard. You will need your own transport. There is no staff accommodation, so you should live locally or be happy to commute from areas such as Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Staveley, Grasmere, Hawkshead or Kendal.
Key Responsibilities
Bar Assistant (£12.75 per hour)
• Serve drinks and take food orders with a warm, friendly manner.
• Make cocktails, coffees and soft drinks to the house standard.
• Keep the bar clean, stocked and ready for service.
• Clear and reset tables in the bar and lounge areas.
• Take payments and charge drinks to rooms accurately.
• Follow licensing, food safety and allergen rules.
Bar Supervisor or Restaurant Supervisor (£14.22 per hour)
• Run the bar or restaurant floor on your shift.
• Brief the team before service and give each person clear tasks.
• Lead from the front when it gets busy.
• Handle guest feedback and put things right fast.
• Train new starters and support the team.
• Cash up, check deliveries and help with stock counts.
• Step up and cover for the Bar Manager or Restaurant Manager when needed.
Bar Manager (£14.90 per hour)
• Run the bars day to day.
• Recruit, train and motivate the bar team.
• Write rotas and keep labour costs on target.
• Order stock, run the cellar and carry out stock takes.
• Hit gross profit targets and keep waste low.
• Keep the drinks list and cocktail menu fresh and profitable.
• Make sure the bar meets licensing, health and safety and hygiene standards.
• Work closely with the restaurant, kitchen and events teams.
Key Requirements
• Experience in a busy bar, restaurant or hotel.
• For supervisor and manager roles, experience at that level or a strong record ready for the step up.
• A friendly, confident manner with guests.
• Smart appearance and good timekeeping.
• Happy to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
• Own transport. The resort is rural and no accommodation is offered.
• Live within a reasonable commute of Windermere.
• Bar Manager: cellar and stock control experience. A Personal Licence is a bonus.
• Full right to work in the UK.
These roles would suit someone who lives in or near the South Lakes and wants a steady, long-term job in one of the most beautiful places in the country.
What’s On Offer
• £12.75 to £14.90 per hour, depending on the role.
• A permanent role with a well-known lakeside resort.
• Paid holiday.
• Training and the chance to progress.
• A friendly, supportive team.
• A stunning lakeside setting to work in every day.
